Notes on MRI Artifacts and Proper Grounding:
Properly grounded equipment should not require a filter. Ideally any items being supplied with A/C power should receive that power from the same clean power source that supplies power to the MRI System. Additionally, all equipment connected to the RF Penetration Panel should be grounded to the same ground as the shielded scan room. These steps should be checked first before assuming that you need an RFI filter. Placing a filter inline may help, however the source of the problem should be isolated as best as possible through proper connections, proper clean power and a common ground, before you assume that an RFI Filter is the solution.
If the power and connections have all been checked (as mentioned above) and the offending euipment has been properly grounded to the same ground as the MRI System and artifacts still persist, you may need RFI Filtering to prevent the artifacts. Essentially, the RFI Filters allow only the frequencies to pass through which are essential to the stereo system (in the range of 20Hz to 20Khz) and will supress high frequency noise in the spectrum of the MRI scanner. |
